In our environment, one user is taking his iPad into a mouse barrier facility and remotely accessing a database.  Much easier to transport and clean than a laptop.

We have a very similar policy. That was my problem as well with the iPad. Also, I can’t even begin to imagine why an iPod would be purchased on a grant!?

Our institutional policy is that no computers, software, printers, peripherals, paper, toner, ink can be purchased on a grant UNLESS these items were purchased on the grant and used ONLY for that grant.  Since that is nearly impossible to document they are almost always purchased on departmental funds.  It is too much of an audit nightmare.
