The Contract Negotiator II reports to the Manager of Contract Services of TEES Research Services Contract Division. The Contract Negotiator II is responsible for the negotiation of contracts and assistance with post-award contract interpretation and administration. Duties include writing and reviewing agreements and negotiating with sponsors/subawardees for the rights in technical data and intellectual property, publication rights, price, payment and billing procedures, title to equipment, travel regulations, institutional contributions and other terms and conditions as applicable. The Contract Negotiator II reviews and negotiates terms and conditions of award documents to ensure compliance with TEES and TAMUS policies, the laws of the Federal Government and the State of Texas and sponsor guidelines. The position assists TEES researchers and departmental staff with the administrative support of research funding and disseminates related federal agency and sponsor information, prepares interim funding requests and prepares correspondence to sponsors requesting contract modifications. The position also interacts and coordinates communication regarding contract issues with the TAMUS Office of General Counsel, the Office of Technology Commercialization, Risk Management and other TAMU System offices as necessary.
2 years of professional job-related work experience in contract administration and/or research administration. Working knowledge of Federal grant and contract regulations and practical application of current research administration issues. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as proficiency using MS Word processing software for writing agreements.
Prefer considerable professional work experience in contract administration and/or research administration relating to the following: experience negotiating federal grants and contracts; knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations as applicable to university research contracts; experience negotiating Industry contracts; experience negotiating research agreements and contracts; experience in negotiation of intellectual property issues; and, experience in a university research administration setting.
Prefer demonstrated ability to interact professionally with sponsors, researchers, faculty members and other administrative offices. Prefer certification or specialized training in contract negotiations and/or research administration.
Prefer experience with TEES/TAMUS research administration and TEES/EPIK financial/research administration system.
