Re: Publication information of Faculty Bryan Carson 25 Feb 2010 00:55 EST

Hi, Laura,

At last, a question that relates to my other hat (as a librarian). I
guess the answer to your question depends on what you need. I probably
need to get more information from you before I can direct you to the
proper resource. In the meantime, here is a general answer to your question.

There isn't anything as comprehensive as PubMed for the humanities, but
one good source is the Arts & Humanities Citation Index. Unfortunately,
there are a number of problems with this index, most notably that it
only indexes journals rather than books. (Books tend to be more
important in the humanities than in the sciences, so this is a bigger
omission than it seems.)

In terms of the humanities (and also the social sciences), each field
has its own sources. There really isn't anything that crosses
disciplinary lines in the same way as PubMed. (I often wish there was.)

I'm happy to help point you to the most authoritative databases for the
particular field if you let me know more about your needs.
