Re: Grants.gov Submission Problems Today Robert R Beattie 1 06 Feb 2010 16:51 EST

Just catching up. I believe NIH only accepts (under normal circumstances)
an application that passes Grants.gov Validation; that is, you get a
positive second message. Not just the first message that says it only got
to Grants.gov.

One big difference between the problems this time compared to last
Feb/March is that while there were delays, there were not all of the false
errors we had before. At Michigan we submitted dozens of application, not
up to a 100 this time but not one had a Grants.gov validation error. Are
they not checking as closely as in the past, or were we just better a
preparing the applications. About 3/4 were S2S, rest forms. There were
some NIH validation errors, however, but now we have 5 days to fix :)

Is it really the function of G.g to validate applications, anyway? The
Post Office does not do validations. Why not let the agencies just do
whatever validations they want? Comments?

With this Boost between now and the March deadlines, we should do well in
the future!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
