The Florida International University Office of Sponsored Research Administration (in sunny Miami, Florida) has an immediate opening for a highly motivated Associate Director of Pre-Award. The Office of Sponsored Research Administration Pre-Award Section assists University departments and faculty members during the pre-award stages of sponsored research administration, including the review of proposals to sponsors, negotiation and review of grant award and contracts and the drafting of subcontracts and other research agreements. Under the direction of the Director of Pre-Award, this position contributes to the overall planning and the day-to-day management of the Pre-Award Section.  The Associate Director manages an individual portfolio of proposals and awards and coordinates the activities of the Pre-Award staff to ensure high levels of customer service performance, achievement of goals and quality of results. This individual supervises a team of Pre-Award staff on a daily basis to ensure the timely completion of all aspects of Pre-Award research administration and ensures that Pre-Award staff are trained, developed and empowered to effectively perform their duties consistent within the established University policies and procedures while conforming to federal, state, sponsor and university rules and regulations.

Master's degree in a related field with four years of research administration experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with six years of research administration is required. Previous supervisory and research administration experience in a university central research administration office is preferred. Excellent management and supervisory skills are required to lead a team while ensuring a high level of engagement. In-depth knowledge of grants and contracts with a proven track record of successful proposal review management and contract negotiation skills is essential. Excellence in organizational, supervisory, time-management, analytical and interpersonal communication skills are required. Advanced experience using sponsor electronic research systems (NIH eRA Commons, NSF Fastlane, grants.gov, NASA NSPIRES, NOAA Grants Online, etc.) is essential. Experience with electronic research administration systems (InfoEd, PeopleSoft, eCustoms Visual Compliance) is preferred. Knowledge of federal circulars (OMB A-21, A-110, A-133) and export control regulations (OFAC, EAR, ITAR, etc.) is required.
