Colleagues: I wanted to inform you of the opportunity below and invite
all resadm-l readers to attend:

An intensive, full-day, post-conference workshop, entitled Negotiations
between Universities and Companies, is being offered November 5th at the
2009 National SBIR/STTR Conference in Reno, NV. At this workshop, we
will explore the most challenging issues in sponsored research
agreements between small businesses and universities. Presenters at the
session include:

Rochelle Athey, Director of Sponsored Programs Administration from Iowa
State University, a 20 year veteran university research administrator
with a specialization in corporate-university contract negotiations.

Pearce Gilbert, a serial biomedical entrepreneur, who is currently
serving as Chief Executive Officer of Intelligent Therapeutics LLC, an
early stage medical device company, while also providing advisory
services to other life science companies and entrepreneurs through his
Venture Out LLC consulting firm.

Anthony Boccanfuso, Executive Director for the National Academies'
University-Industry Demonstration Partnership who has extensive
experience in negotiating sponsored research and licensing agreements
between universities and small businesses.

John M. Vassiliades, counsel in the Business and Finance and
Intellectual Property Departments and a member of the Life
Sciences/Technology and Mergers and Acquisitions/Private Equity Groups
of Ballard Spahr LLP. He concentrates his practice on intellectual
property matters, commercial deals, compliance, and regulatory issues.

This hands-on workshop provides for in-depth discussions between the
presenters and the audience and will provide practical strategies for
small business (and universities) that seek to partner with other
organizations. Included in the workshop will be a case study of
previously negotiated sponsored research agreements. Participants will
be sent case studies beforehand so they are better able to understand
the context and proposed research terms and come to the Workshop ready
and willing to participate in a lively, enlightening discussion
