*Sr. IACUC Administrator, **Cornell** University,**Office of Research,
Integrity and Assurance (ORIA)*
The Senior IACUC administrator upholds the Institutional PHS Assurance,
the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), USDA Registration and all federal, state
and university policies and procedure. This individual is the
institutional expert on regulatory requirements regarding animal use and
care and is expected to provide advice and guidance regarding regulatory
and policy requirements in conducting the animal care and use program at
Cornell. The individual manages all aspects of the IACUC meetings,
including quorum management, distribution of documents, preparation of
minutes and follow up items from meetings. S/he works on the development
of institutional policies and procedures as well as assisting in the
development of the Federal Wide Assurance that is filed with the federal
government. . S/he interfaces with the Cornell Center for Animal
Research and Education, Environmental Health and Safety and Gannett
Health Services, researchers and animal facility staff to answer
questions related to animal care and use issues, policies and procedures
and provide assistance in their use of e-Sirius, the online protocol
management system at Cornell University. S/he reviews annual
continuation requests for accuracy and completeness, processes
administrative approvals for protocols when appropriate, and assists the
IACUC in decision making. S/he coordinates the unexpected/incident
reporting process for the IACUC, the Semi- annual inspections and will
be responsible for writing IACUC internal and external reports. S/He
assists in the development and delivery of training programs for
faculty, students and staff, and IACUC reports and documentation. S/he
interfaces with the Office for Sponsored programs where IACUC protocols
have associated external funding. S/he is responsible for ensuring that
there is coordination with the IBC administrator where animal care and
use protocols have bio-safety components and with the IRB administrator
where human participants are involved, and assists in coordination
efforts between the relevant committees. S/he serves as the subject
matter expert for Kuali Coeus implementation and development at Cornell
University.
*Requirements*
Bachelor’s degree in animal science with 3-5 years IACUC or related
experience or equivalent combination. Demonstrated knowledge of federal
and states laws and regulations governing the use of animals in
research. Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) or eligible
within 1 year of taking position. Strong computer proficiency; excellent
written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to work in a
decentralized environment with the ability to meet strict deadlines,
maintain very high level of confidentiality and quality attention to
detail. The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in
all communications and interactions, and to make decisions on projects
without additional oversight.
