*Director of Provostial Research Programs * *New York** University – Abu Dhabi* * * *About the Position: This position is based in New York City. * * * NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Director of Provostial Research Programs to assist and participate in institutional decision-making processes concerning research policy and research administration functions for the NYUAD Institute, including policy development and implementation, oversight, development and support for NYUAD grant competitions, and pre-award grant administration. Provide support for other university-wide competitive institutional research initiative programs and so-called limited nominations competitions for external fellowships and awards. Special emphasis will be placed on creating and maintaining a useful web interface for communications between faculty, schools and the research administration offices. ** *About the University: * * * NYU Abu Dhabi will be a research university formed around a liberal arts and science college, integrally linked to a major university in the United States. There is no other such institution in the Middle East. Today, NYU is the largest private University in the United States. NYUAD will be developed in partnership with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Emirate’s leadership is deeply committed to creating a world-class University driven by NYU – and to funding the endeavor. Over the next three years, the NYUAD will grow into a fully equipped center for advanced study and research, hosting research projects, labs, and groups of visiting faculty selected according to the highest standards from NYU and other universities around the world. All faculty and students at NYUAD will be actively encouraged to participate in the intellectual and scholarly opportunities afforded by the NYUAD Institute, through programming linked to faculty research interests, courses, and student capstone projects. With the Institute opening in 2008 and the College in 2010, to NYU’s standards of quality, NYUAD will grow in its first phase to up to 2000 undergraduate students and up to 800 graduate students in the arts, humanities, social sciences, sciences, and engineering. Over time, NYUAD may expand to a total enrollment of 4,000, with growth concentrated in graduate and professional degree programs. * * *Responsibilities: * * * Assist and participate in institutional decision-making processes concerning research administration and research related policy requirements for NYUAD with respect to, e.g., conflict of interest, ownership and distribution rights of intellectual property, ownership and use of equipment, export control, welfare of human and animal research subjects. Deliver workshops for University community on NYUAD research grant opportunities. Oversee NYUAD and NYUNY internal grant competitions, including development and announcement of guidelines, proposal requirements, web-based applications, and review processes. Serve as non-voting staff member of the NYUAD Research Review Council, which has executive decision-making authority on grants in the NYUAD Institute. The Director will staff that Review Council and be in regular contact with its members in Abu Dhabi and New York, providing status reports and summaries on the applications coming in and on their progress through the review process, and preparing the materials for the Research Review Council meetings. Represent the Provost's Office within specific delegation of authority in matters relating to the research budget, grant application, review and award process for the NYUAD research program; University internal grant competitions which this position will manage and staff. Coordinate post-award services for NYUAD and internal NYU awards in conjunction with financial and grant administration offices, including NYUAD finance offices, NYU Sponsored Programs Accounting, NYU Office of Sponsored Programs. Work closely with NYUAD finance offices to provide input to the NYUAD research budget. Oversee budgets for NYU provostial research funds; prepare forecasts and authorize expenditures; direct preparation of end-of-year reconciliations and related reports. ** *Required Education: *Bachelor's degree. Preferred: Master’s degree.** * * *Required Experience: *5+ years of research administration experience, preferably in a higher education setting, and experience in working with senior University managers. Knowledge of regulations pertaining to U.S. sponsored research, including applicable Federal regulations and supervisory experience. Preferred: Experience in international research settings. *Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*: Broad familiarity with regulations pertaining to sponsored research, including applicable federal, state and local regulations. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including faculty, students, departmental and senior administrators. Ability to develop and communicate priorities, conduct analyses, and make recommendations to senior administrators. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Budget and accounting skills.
