HNRCA investigators conduct the world's most advanced studies on
nutrition and aging. The research focuses on determining the nutrient
requirements necessary to promote well-being for older adults. HNRCA
scientists examine how nutrition plays a major role in the prevention of
the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with
aging.

The HNRCA is federal building operated by Tufts University through a
cooperative agreement with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS).
Located adjacent to the Tufts University Health Sciences campus in
Boston, Massachusetts, the HNRCA is one of six human nutrition research
centers in the United States which is supported by the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA)/ARS.

The Grants Management Administrator office is responsible for pre-award
administration for all grants and contracts proposed and awarded for
research and research related projects. This position is responsible for
proposals and awards to scientists in the HNRCA. Research Administration
involves frequent contact with HNRCA scientists, Tufts faculty, staff,
students submitting pre-doctoral grants, officials in the federal and
non-federal agencies sponsoring the research, and with comparable staff
at collaborating universities as well as corporate entities.

Reporting to the Associate Director of the HRNCA, the Grants Management
Administrator (GMA) is responsible for:

 * Assisting with pre-award submission and working with the Associate
 Director and Director with finding funding opportunities, putting
 together program projects and center grants and helping with
 budget development;
 * Coordinating the preparation of grants involving multiple
 principle investigators;
 * Training staff in grant proposal instructions as well as
 monitoring opportunities for grants for all HNRCA clients;
 * Reviewing grant proposals for submission to federal agencies and
 non-profit foundations;
 * Assuring that proposals meet all guidelines and rules of the
 funding agency;
 * Acting as the primary point of contact between the University
 Research Administration and the Sponsored Program Accounting office;
 * Maintaining updated CV’s;
 * Assisting with creating and maintaining efficient business systems
 to support University compliance with federal laws and regulations
 (human and animal subjects, bio-hazards, export controls);
 * Working closely with the Associate and Administrative Director in
 reviewing awards and award amendments and modifications;
 * Coordinating drafts sub awards and sub award amendments and
 expediting through to full execution;
 * Assisting as needed in routine post-award tasks such as no-cost
 extensions, non-competing renewals, internal rebudget requests,
 and federal and contract close-out documentation;
 * Communicating effectively with sponsors.

*Basic Requirements: *Bachelor's Degree with 2 - 5 years of related
experience. Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft
Office and the Internet.

*Preferred Qualifications: *Graduate degree related to management and/
or expertise in grants management. Two years experience in a university
research setting in a central university sponsored programs department
at a similar level of responsibility. Experience in managing the
submission of proposals and multiple projects, both in hard copy and
electronic formats, in a University or other non-profit research
setting. Demonstrated experience developing budgets, writing and editing
the non-science sections, particularly with NIH and USDA grants.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to simultaneously
guide and direct multiple proposals through the grant submission
process. Ability to use grants management systems and federal electronic
systems (eRA, Grants.gov, Fastlane, etc.). Strong ability to use
Microsoft Office Excel and Word, Internet, Adobe Acrobat products, and
other applicable software. Ability to learn People Soft financials.
Strong analytical thinking ability. Excellent written and oral
communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a
team and independently. Math ability as required for creating and
manipulating budgets. Demonstrated ability to work under the pressure of
hard deadlines and competing priorities.
