Re: So, how did Challenge-grant day go overall? Shelli Shababo 29 Apr 2009 11:46 EST

I submitted one Friday morning at 8 AM and still have not received validation on that one or one I submitted Saturday morning. I have both a g.g case number and NIH ticket number on both.

According to g.g they are both in the system.

Grants.gov is up to the grants submitted through about 1pm on Friday,
anything
we've submitted after that time has not come in. You are not alone, if
that
helps?

I submitted my last one on Friday afternoon @ 2pm PST and still have
not received validation from the e-Commons today (Wed. am). I have the
Grants.gov tracking number. Has anyone else received validation? It*s

I, too, was pleasantly surprised at the smoothness of submission
through Grants.gov. We submitted about 50-60 challenge applications all
using the Adobe forms with very few problems. We prepared faculty and
staff early, warning of possible Grant.gov difficulties, and provided
many resources on our website. Most of our applications were submitted
by 4/24, with a few stragglers on the 27th. Our biggest problem was
keeping the different instructions clear between the competitive
revisions, administrative supplements and challenge grants, many of
which were in progress at the same time.

We are still awaiting ultimate arrive in the Commons for most of them,
but we were prepared for that delay.

After the many challenges we've faced with Grants.gov, I am impressed
with how well it held up under the submission onslaught!

It wasn*t so fun for us * we had only one that was really at the wire
and I sat and submitted over and over from 3:30 until 5 with no success.
I tried the tricks suggested yesterday afternoon * nothing worked. L

OH well. C*est la vie.

I totally agree * I was pleasantly surprised by the relative ease with
which I could submit my Challenge proposals * my colleagues and I
submitted close to 150, and very few came right down to the wire, which
was amazing.

But I didn*t have any time outs, not an instance where I hit the save
and submit button and then nothing happened. Everything went through
quickly and within Adobe * didn*t have to drag it or open the file in IE
first * and got the confirmation page fast and the first receipt e-mail
immediately afterward. So that part when much better than I expected.

The part that was awful was and is waiting and waiting for the
validation and other e-mails and the proposals to show up in eCommons so
that we can check for errors and warnings.

Hi folks. Feel free to reply on list of off. I've no particular plans
to write about this; I'm just curious, for now--feeling things out.

I've been following the posts by people who are waiting--nervously--for
confirmation that their Challenge Grant proposals were successfully
submitted. I wish you al
l the best.

But apart from that, did anything fail? Did the system crash? Did
things go completely haywire at any point?

Given the problems people have had with G.g, some where predicting
total collapse. Seems to me that didn't happen. Would you agree or
disagree?

Thanks
Jim Austin
