Re: Challenge Grant_Question Regarding Abstract Summary Joelina Peck 22 Apr 2009 14:59 EST

Thanks, I know the general guidelines for a normal NIH proposal are limited to 30 lines of text.

However, in this RFA the guidelines under Special Instructions for Other Project Information (section 4.4 of the SF424 (R&R) application. This says the project summary/Abstract is limited to one page. State the following:

Item 6. Project Summary/Abstract: Limited to one page. Begin this section by stating the broad Challenge Area and the
specific Challenge Topic that this application addresses.

Hi Joelina,

The project abstract/summary is always limited to 30 lines of text.

Specific Aims, part of the research plan, is limited to one page for the
challenge grants.

Nothing in the RFA indicates that they can exceed the 30 lines of text for
the project abstract.

Thanks!

Hi All,

I just learned that that the program summary section of the challenge
grants are limited to 30 lines of text? A department staff member emailed
NIH and received a confirmation that it is limited to 30 lines of text. I
can’t find any notice updates from NIH for RFA-OD-09-003 that address this
change and according to the guidelines the limitation listed is 1 page.
Has anyone else heard this information? Have you been using the 30 lines of
text or has anyone submitted with a one page summary? If there was an
update can someone please share?

Thanks for any information you can provide!
