Does any federal agency require/prefer a single title for individuals
employed to do research after their doctoral degree?
e.g. postdoctoral: fellow or associate or investigator or researcher
Given the financial and immigration issues attached to stipend vs
salary and trainee vs. "outstanding researcher", are there reasons to
not give all these people one title?
Have the original reasons for using different titles disappeared as
postdocs have become less cattle-like and more staff-like?
thanks
