Re: Schema Validation Errors - Grants.gov Bob Beattie 11 Dec 2008 12:19 EST

I looked into this and got the following message from Grants.gov. I
suspect it is the transmission problem, as it never got to HRSA, but
the G.g staff are looking into this.
 From Grants.gov:
· This may be a result of broken pipe so to try and give
people on your list serve some info you can point them to the blog
posting on this:
http://grants-gov.blogspot.com/2008/12/alert-grantsgov-e-mail-
notifications.html
· HRSA themselves are having issues, we have a conference call
w/ them on a # of issues tomorrow a.m. such as this

I am emailing the ListServe to see if anyone else is having the
problems I had yesterday with a HRSA submission via Grants.gov I
submitted the grant before lunch and received the following email:

Your submission was received on 10-Dec-08 03:31:12 PM, ET
..
However, it contained the following errors and cannot be forwarded to
the granting agency. The following errors were detected:
Error:Schema validation failed
DefaultValidationHandler found 3 problems:
 1 Warnings:
1: (line 21 column 150) src-import.0: Failed to read imported schema

 2 Errors:
1: (line 38 column 54) src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name
'header:GrantSubmissionHeader' to a(n) element declaration component.
 2: (line 2 column 555) cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content
starting with element 'header:GrantSubmissionHeader'. One of
'{"http://apply.grants.gov/system/MetaGrantApplication":Forms}' is

The document is NOT valid!

I called Grants.gov and was told I had the wrong Adobe software which
I knew I did not and I knew the PI was using the right software. I
resubmitted the grant and got an email that it had been received and
was being validated. I got to work this morning and found that I had
several emails on both submissions.

There were two more emails on the first submission advising there
were errors and then there was emails that it had been validated and
retrieved by the agency. I also received validation and retrieval
emails on the second submission. I called Grants.gov and was told
the system was kicking out the Schema Validation Errors and they were
unsure why. I was told that If I got an email even if the email
showed errors that I should not worry about it and know that it went
through the system.

How do you not worry about an email you receive that shows you have
errors. And because it is taking so long to get these emails how
would you know that it went through. This makes the average person
think that the grant should be resubmitted. Now the application has
been submitted twice and I am having to email HRSA to explain what
happened.

Is this happening to anyone else? This is a little irritating.
Robert Beattie can you do something about this?
