Our office also distributes email announcements about limited submission program to all faculty on a monthly basis. They are also uploaded to our website every month. The emails and documents on our website describe the process in detail - the timeline for submission, the guidelines to follow and so on. We do have an internal review process if need be. To those faculty whose proposals do not get selected to go forward, we invite them to meet with our Assistant VP to further develop the proposal for alternate funding.
You can go to http://www.research.ucf.edu/SponsoredPrograms/FundingOpportunities/submission_programs.html to see our policies.
Thanks.

We distribute e-mail announcements about programs with limited
submissions to our faculty and post the announcements to our web site.
The announcements detail an internal review process. You can see
examples at: http://www.bu.edu/osp/funding/fundingLCIDs.html. I believe
other schools do this as well.

At OSU we would always pass along an announcement about the program to
the whole university (or all applicable areas). Then, if necessary, we
would conduct an internal competition. This occasionally puts us in a
time crunch, but we feel it's the only way to ensure fairness, and that
the best proposal(s) goes forward from our school.

Subject: [RESADM-L] limited submission programs
I was wondering how you approach programs that limit the number of
submissions from a university when a faculty member brings the program
to your attention. Do you go with first to notify you gets to submit?
or If timing allows, do you notify your university community of the
program and have an internal competition of the number interested
exceeds the number allowable? Or ???
Thanks for your assistance.
Hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving.
