Thanks, Grants.gov problems report Bob Beattie 17 Oct 2008 12:18 EST
Thanks much to all of those who were able to get their comments to me on short notice. I incorporated all of the general problems and some specifics into my report. There were about 20 people who responded. I was expecting more, so I guess things are going pretty well for most users. I was surprised how few responses there were from the largest research universities, only a couple from the top 50. As it turns out, this will be an ongoing process so if you missed sending earlier, please do so now and as they come to you. Again to me directly, the group is tired of hearing about this:) I have put a short summary of what I have found on my web site if anyone wants to take a look. Send me issues that are not already on our list, or specific agency problems. Can anyone explain exactly what are the problems with HSRA. http://www-personal.umich.edu/~abeattie/ggproblemoct08.htm So, please send messages directly to me. And, if you have specific problems with an application, feel free to contact me. xxxxxx@umich.edu Bob xxxxxx@umich.edu (734) 936-1283 On Oct 13, 2008, at 3:23 PM, Bob Beattie wrote: DO NOT REPLY TO THE GROUP. Please send replies to me, xxxxxx@umich.edu Hi All, I am working on a report to document problems with Grants.gov. I am interested in learning from anyone about problems with G.g itself -- finding, downloading, filling out, and submitting forms. It is getting late to complain about PureEdge, but everything about Adobe is fair game. Assume every compliant is valid, from cannot print the full application to hating not being able to double click on a form to open, to bigger conceptual issues about the whole forms and down load process. I am limiting myself, however, only to the forms process, not system to system. Others will deal with that. I also want to know problems you all have had with agencies that require additional information, or, as noted recently about NAS, which are not using Grants.gov. or not using it enough. Who wants extra paper copies, who wants extra sign offs, who makes life more difficult? This is the time to really speak out about problems you have had. In the past I have sent along some problems, but now I want to make a complete list. I will not mention any names so you will be safe with your sponsors and the G.g staff. DO NOT SEND REPLY TO THE GROUP. Please send directly to me. I will later post my findings here, as well as pass them along to the "powers that be." Now is the time to speak out. I need your thoughts by Thursday morning. Sorry for the short turn around, but the things that trouble you should flow freely. Bullet points or sentences or paragraphs, all are welcome. Thanks much.
