Re: NSF limit on senior personnel salaries, coming in 2009

Hi Folks!!
Have any of you addressed this issue with your senior researchers who get a lot of NSF funding and might also be charging some Academic Year salary on current awards, as well as the ubiquitous 2/9ths summer?? If NSF is going to limit the amount of salary over the period of a year to 2 months only for senior personnel, and your seniors are on 100% soft money, have you discussed the impact on their salaries if they don't do any other fed agency research? Holy Cow! Or... is it 2 months PER AWARD, period? So, if you have four awards you could get 4 x 2?? I'm reading the words, but my mind won't believe it!
thanks for any insight...
Maggie
Proposed change to the AAG in 2009:
Chapter V - Section B.1, Salaries, Wages and Fringe Benefits, has undergone a major revision of NSF's salary reimbursement policy. In general, the Foundation will now limit salary compensation for senior project personnel to no more than two months of their regular salary in any one year. This limit includes salary compensation received from all NSF-funded grants. This change moves away from the concept of summer salary and allows for reimbursement of two months of salary per year whenever appropriate during the year.
