value of a large assett Lori Johnson 22 Sep 2008 11:10 EST

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience in trying to
value an item of equipment purchased or fabricated on grant funds.
We have a sub recipient relationship with a for-profit firm that is
helping us build a laser to be used with our particle accelerator
machine. We are paying the firm for salary, materials, and a fixed fee
portion that is proprietary information. They have now delivered the
laser and we need to set a value for this piece of equipment on our
books. The firm cannot give us a "price" or "value" as they are coding
it all as Research and Development and will expense it all.
Does anyone know how we would bring this in on our books?
Any help or guidance would be great.
Thank you.
Lori Johnson
