The PI that I worked with closed out his project (submitted a final report,
etc.). He had already had a no-cost extension plus the grant was spent out.
12 months after the end date (9 months after close out), he was awarded a
continuation. Even though we processed the close out, he still retained the
original grant number and continued the suffix numbering. He is now in year
6 of 10.
