Essential duties and responsibilities include sponsor identification, proposal preparation training, proposal preparation and review, limited contract review and negotiation and other responsibilities and special projects as assigned. In particular, the Grant Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing a system of identifying potential sponsors, matching potential sponsors with campus projects, and working with faculty and staff to develop funding strategies. Working with the Director, the Grant Specialist will also develop and implement a proposal preparation training program including workshops for faculty and staff and one-on-one meetings where appropriate. Importantly, the Grant Specialist will prepare and review proposals to a wide variety of funding agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, to ensure proposals of high quality. At least two years of experience in research administration in a university setting is preferred. Budget preparation experience is preferred. Knowledge of funding databases and electronic proposal submission sites (FastLane, Grants.gov and eCommons) is preferred. Strong verbal and written skills. Demonstrated ability to create and present workshop materials effectively. Demonstrated expertise with word processing, database management, and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel and Access software). Demonstrated ability to work effectively under the pressure of externally determined deadlines and shifting priorities. Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently and be detail-oriented. Demonstrated ability to complete projects from inception to implementation. Professional service-oriented demeanor.
