Laura,
If the hotel receipt was "lost" perhaps the hotel will issue a
duplicate.  We would be required to have a receipt here, as well as
receipts for reimbursement on other allowable expenses (we don't use per
diem). At the very least maybe there is something the conference
published about registration and hotel costs that could be used to
substantiate the claim.

Laura,

You have to fall back on your university's policy. Some organizations
allow both per diem and reimbursements, others only allow reimbursement
of receipts. Either way, hotel typically requires a receipt.
