Re: Public Safety Grant Sources Corey Burger 16 Jul 2008 12:53 EST

This is sort of along the same lines as the original question in this post. A while back I was approached by the Director of our Campus Central Distribution/Post Office to see if there were grant funds available for security equipment related to post office operations, i.e. Anthrax, explosive detection, etc. ... or any other related security issues. Does anyone know any sources for this kind of funding?

Thanks,

There is also campus safety through Dept of Justice, VAW programs.

Cheryl,

We applied (unsuccessfully) to a Homeland Security/FEMA program for
Fire Prevention and Safety grants, but it looks like a lot of
universities have received those funds..

But we did just receive a grant from the Virginia Dept of Criminal
Justice Services which had federal funds available for School and Campus
Safety. The grant is for training university police officers on our
campus and another in Richmond for rapid response to intruders, active
shooters, etc.

We have also gotten funds for campus police from the state DMV and ABC
departments for equipment and patrols.

Good luck-

I am trying to locate funding sources for public safety related
projects/equipment. If my memory serves me correctly, federal Homeland
Security funds only to the states and not to institutions. Is that
correct? Also, any ideas of funding sources.

Thanks,
