Re: DUNS numbers Charlie Hathaway 07 Jul 2008 15:07 EST
Thanks. I initiated this DUNS discussion. We have concluded that because FFATA (as mentioned by Lesley and others) is making the DUNS a unique identifier (as only the EIN used to be?), it is not wise to start having multiple DUNS under one EIN. The idea of creating a DUNS+4 was suggested as a solution to how we would send things to NIH. However, NIH Commons cannot capture the +4 extension. Charlie > We tried using the single DUNS number with extensions for our different campuses, but that system did not work. As I recall, the problem pertained to CCR. So, each campus of the University uses a different DUNS number for sponsored programs administration. We occasionally accrue extraneous DUNS numbers because departments and/or individual PIs directly request them, and our Controller/AVP periodically gets rid of those numbers. > > Chris Cox > Director of Sponsored Programs > The University of Tennessee > 1534 White Avenue > Knoxville, TN 37996-1529 > xxxxxx@utk.edu > 865-974-2465 > FAX 865-974-2805 > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Research Administration List [mailto:xxxxxx@hrinet.org] On Behalf Of Lesley Zajac > Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2008 11:51 AM > To: xxxxxx@hrinet.org > Subject: Re: [RESADM-L] DUNS numbers > > I thought that since the DUNS is linked to the FEID in the CCR for grants.gov you had to have a unique DUNS. The specific issue is whether a single institution can or should create a new DUNS number for the purpose of submitting federal proposals and distinguishing submissions/grants from different divisions within the institution. > I have been told that sometimes this is done by adding a suffix (e.g. -0001) to the existing number. > Anyone done this? > thanks > Charlie Hathaway > > > ====================================================================== > Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including > subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available via our web site at http://www.hrinet.org (click on "Listserv Lists") ====================================================================== > > > ====================================================================== > Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available via our web site at http://www.hrinet.org (click on "Listserv Lists") > ====================================================================== > > > ====================================================================== > Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available via our web site at http://www.hrinet.org (click on "Listserv Lists") > ====================================================================== > ====================================================================== Instructions on how to use the RESADM-L Mailing List, including subscription information and a web-searchable archive, are available via our web site at http://www.hrinet.org (click on "Listserv Lists") ======================================================================
