Thank you, Martin Williams Director, Sponsored Programs William Paterson University Wayne, NJ 07470 973-720-2852 xxxxxx@wpunj.edu; www.wpunj.edu/osp * * * Assistant Director, Pre-Award Services Office of Sponsored Programs, William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ Position: Assistant Director, Pre-Award Services, Job Code 820WEB Responsibilities: The Assistant Director for Pre-Award Services in the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) has significant responsibility for the development of proposals to government agencies, public charities and private foundations. The Assistant Director for Pre-Award Services works with faculty, staff and administrators to insure that proposals are fundable and of the highest quality. This is a key support position coordinating all aspects of pre-award services. The position reports directly to the Director of the OSP, a university-wide service unit that reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. Under the general supervision of the Director, OSP, the Assistant Director will coordinate pre-award services by providing technical assistance in grant and consulting contract proposal development and submission. This will include insuring evaluation criteria are addressed and proposals are complete; preparing budgets; providing limited writing support; and providing technical assistance for proposal submission, particularly in electronic submissions. The position also provides primary authorship for important projects; identifies, evaluates and recommends appropriate funding sources; supervises Graduate Assistants; presents workshops; and maintains and prepares reports and statistical data. Qualifications: Three years of appropriate and successful experience that includes project/program and proposal development, writing and budgeting; the submission of proposals through electronic systems; the development of related policies, procedures or practices; the collection and use of statistics; knowledge of government grant, contract and compliance regulations; and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with academic and administrative employees as well as funding agency staff. Strong computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products, Internet search tools and electronic databases; and effective written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and manage time effectively, and to work in a team environment. Additional training to enhance the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for grant development at an institution of higher education preferred. Experience coordinating efforts by multiple writers/project directors or experience as a consultant to several organizations is highly desirable. Education: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university required; Master's, Doctorate, or other appropriate advanced degree preferred.
