General Description: Independently review and approve grant proposals, including cooperative agreements, and manage grants award activity. Provide advice and counsel to faculty and staff during grant proposal preparation stage. Review grant proposals for completeness and compliance and write exception letters when needed. Manage a portion of pre-award grant activity. Review and negotiate grants and cooperative agreements and incoming subcontracts. Interpret, communicate and provide detailed advice to faculty and staff regarding proposals, interpretation of rules, regulations and compliance issues. Manage sub award process, including preparing and negotiating outgoing sub awards, insuring proper flow-down of grant terms and conditions while adhering to the policies. Assure complete information on the Sub award Request Form, approve shopping carts and monitor Sub recipient performance. Take active role in trouble shooting and training departmental users of the COEUS pre-award system-to-system software. Must be a fast learner and able to work independently after initial instruction. Strong ability to negotiate working relationships. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience required. Working knowledge of compliance issues related to sponsored research. Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to handle multiple projects in a deadline driven environment. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to handle ambiguity and exercise independent judgment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and willing to travel to various professional meetings and conferences. Experience with Coeus and SAP software a plus. Three years experience in research administration with some specialized experience in grant administration. Some familiarity with legal principles of negotiation. NOTE: The successful candidate(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check.
