The program will be archived tomorrow. The presentation has most of the good info http://www.grants.gov/assets/shpresentation04162008.pdf The new timeline was discussed, and the file above shows when agencies are "supposed" to come into Adobe. Note NSF and NIH in December. There was a definitive statement that Adobe Professional 8.1.2 was authorized to use. A good question came up about using different appropriate Adobes on different platforms (Reader with Mac then to Pro on Non-Mac, for example), and this was given the ok. Various enhancements were noted. The one of putting the Grant Number first in the message subject line was first brought up at the 2006 NCURA meeting as a top 10 needed change. That is some progress :) Now can we get the Application Filing Name in each message? Lots of questions about what version of Adobe to use. Over and over, Reader AND Professional 8.1.2. Good news about Pro. Michael stated that Adobe Reader 8.1.3 is coming out in June and they will test it. There should be fewer wrong version of Adobe being used, but there is a way to test that the one you have will work. What would be nice is to test for corrupt files prior to submission, but not available. Many statements about getting applications into the system a few days prior to the deadline. It can take 48 hours to find that a file has validation errors. Maybe some organization will submit a really big application on the day of the deadline, or even day before, and it will be corrupt and they find out too late to fix. We need a "Poster Child" of the Late Proposal to help convince the PI's that they need to go a bit earlier than the last day. There was mention of a "System Enhancement Request Form" on the site, that can be used to request fixes/improvements. This is the first time I recall hearing of a willingness to take requests in a systematic way. I could not find the form, however :) The discussion was worth listening to.
