I myself join the profession after earning a Ph.D. in English and then
spending a number of years in non-profit fundraising, administration,
grantwriting, community building, and advocacy. I find that not only the
rhetorical skills I developed in my first profession, but also the program
planning, organizational development, and evaluation and budgeting skills I
gained in my second professional incarnation, are serving me well in my
third.
