We would like to get some input on how other institutions handle
vacation and sick time when the individuals are compensated from
research projects. Below are few ways we have seen it handled. Or if you
just want to share with me how your institution handles vacation and
sick time that would be great. We would like to know whether your
institutional policy for vacation time allows for the accumulation of
time that can carried over to future years or if the policy for vacation
is that it has to be used within the fiscal year it is earned. Also does
your institution distinguish between positions that are dependent upon
external funding and other positions, such as grant funded positions.

It is directly charged in the salary category in proportion to how the
previous pay period was charged between multiple research projects?

The vacation & sick time handled through a fringe benefit rate and than
no vacation or sick time is directly charged to the sponsored projects
in the salary category?
