Steve, thanks for good explanation of the non-Mac situation.

On my Mac, I too wonder about the note that appears as I download an
grant application. See here for what I get when I open an Adobe Form
grant application off the web. Usually I will download it to desktop
and then open it
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~abeattie/dbasum2005/downloadapp.jpg

I have no idea why the default is Acrobat 5.0. This is not on my
computer nor has it been for years. Somewhere there is a preference
set, I guess, to use this.

But then, when the Grant Application does open, and I check which
version of reader is working, it is the current version.

I think the _safest_ way to do this is to not let the Grant
Application open by default, but save to the desktop, or in a
folder. Then open with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 or IBM Workplace Forms
Viewer as needed.

Second question
You can print all of the attachments from one place in Adobe Reader,
but you must open each one first. You can see a list of them all,
by clicking on the paperclip in the left margin. This shows you a
list of all attachments at the bottom of the screen. You must open
each one and print it. At least I cannot seem to get them all to
print without opening. Anyone else figure this out? Here is an
example of a list of the attachments. This feature makes it easy to
check that all attachments are the proper type and all there

The file that is downloaded to your computer is not changed by the
version of Adobe that you have on your computer. You would be able to
download the GAP via Internet Explorer (or any other browser) even if
you did not have any Adobe software on your computer, you just would
not be able to do anything with it.

When you right click on the downloaded file, it is showing that it
opens as a 7.0 document because you have Acrobat Professional 7 on
your computer. Again, the document itself did not change. If you had
Acrobat 6 on your computer, it might show up as a version 6 document.
If you click on the PDF tab of the properties, you will see the
version of software that was used to create the document.

To open it in Reader 8.1.2:

1) Make sure that no other PDF files are open. If they are, you MUST
close them.

2) Right Click the GAP and select "Open With"

3) Reader 8.1 should be one of the choices - select it

4) After the document opens, from them Menu, select Help --> About
Adobe Acrobat ... It should show you that you are using Reader 8.1.2

I'm sorry, but I can not help with your second question.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Two Adobe g.g questions

Folks –
I’m sure these have both been addressed on the listserv but I just
can’t ferret them out in the archives.
My first question is:
when I download an Adobe application from grants.gov and save it to
my PC, then right-click on it, it says it’s a 7.0 version document.
Is there something I need to do in IE to have it download as an 8.1.2
version? We do have 7.0.9 Professional and 8.1.2 Reader, and I’ve
followed the previously-posted advice to make 8.1.2 my default. I
don’t see where I can change the version default in Internet Explorer
though. Please advise.
My second question is:
Also, I thought I read something on the listserv recently about
printing all attachments to a Reader file as a group(?).

Thanks a million!
Bev R.
