Keep the request to $300k and use the $16k overage as an institutional
match. That way you will provide the real cost of the project without
exceeding the limit, as well as demonstrating institutional commitment.

Subject: [RESADM-L] Dept of Justice Budget

I'm doing my first DOJ application and have a budget question - the
program guidance states funding "up to $300,000", my PI is having
difficulty getting below $316,000 and the overage is tied to salary -
are we better off being honest with the real cost or trying to decrease
the ask to below $300K? My gut is to ask for what it really costs to do
the scope of work......

Thanks, in advance, for your quick responses :)
