Staff Assistant, Research Administration

FUNCTIONS:
The Staff Assistant, Research Administration is a professional staff
position responsible for providing pre-award faculty and staff support
including funding searches, proposal development, proposal and award
review, mail and electronic proposal submission, proposal and award
database entry and management, and travel and R&D application
processing. This person also manages the publication of Research
Highlights, a newsletter published every two months. This person also
works with Graphics in publishing Research & Creative Activities every
two to three years, as time permits. This person also coordinates
several SIUE internal funding programs, including the Distinguished
Research Professor Award program, the Paul Simon Award and the
Hoppe/Lindsay award programs. In addition, the Staff Assistant is
responsible for maintaining the website, monitoring the proposal and
award database, and running reports on proposals and awards. Finally,
the Staff Assistant manages special projects as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
The Staff Assistant, Research Administration, reports to the Associate
Dean of the Graduate School.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide pre-award support for faculty (40%)
Publications, database and website management (35%)
Coordinate internal funding programs (20%)
Special projects (5%) include providing information for special reports
and grant proposals, prepare internal and external reports, other duties
as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s Degree is
preferred. The Staff Assistant will have: 1) proven ability to develop
and execute successful training curricula and workshops; 2) work
experience in a higher education setting; 3) very strong communication
skills and the ability to produce successful work under the pressure of
deadlines; and 4) interest in beginning or furthering a career in the
area of research administration.

Salary: $35,000
