Most institutions pay the termination vacation payout from an institution-wide
separate pot of money which does not get charged to the grant (verify with
your payroll office). This often comes from the fringe benefits.
In any case, it doesn't make sense to add the vacation payout to his salary.
If someone's salary is for e.g $200K per year, it shouldn't change just because
he had accumulated some annual leave.
