This happened to us last year and the only saving grace was that I had
saved the previous versions in other places.  I believe it means the
file is corrupted... at least ours was.  We blamed it on the VP of
Research too, because he was the last one to look at it.
We never did recover it but instead just proceeded to revise an older
version.  Good luck!
