The Research Office at Oregon State University invites applications for
a professional faculty position as Director for the Office of Research
Integrity. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month, fixed-term position.
The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Research and is
a member of the Research Office leadership team. Annual reappointment to
the position occurs at the discretion of Vice President for Research.
The Director will oversee the IRB, IACUC and COI functions within the
office, working with the compliance administrators to develop and
maintain strong compliance programs that support the faculty and meet or
exceed all state and federal requirements. The IRB handles approximately
650 protocols per year, of which approximately 50-60% are exempt. The
IACUC has approximately 330 open protocols at any one time. With regard
to conflict of interest, the university policy mandates that every
professorial faculty member participate in the process. As needed, the
Director will work with the appropriate committees, faculty and
administrators to manage the institution's response to allegations of
non-compliance in research-related activities.
The Director will be the point-of-contact between the university and the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Offices of Laboratory
Animal Welfare (OLAW) and Human Research Protections (OHRP), and will
oversee the development of routine and special reports to these Offices.
The Director will work with the compliance administrators to develop and
implement administrative policies and procedures relating to research
integrity in all areas pertinent to the OSU program.
The Director will have compliance responsibilities relating to potential
export control issues. Working in conjunction with faculty and college
leadership, Sponsored Programs, and University Legal Counsel, the
Director will contribute to pre-award terms and conditions related to
the export control issues, and will design/implement a post-award
compliance monitoring process.
The university anticipates the need for the development of a broad-based
Responsible Conduct of Research and Scholarship (RCRS) program within
the next two to three years. The Director will take a leadership role,
working with the appropriate faculty governance bodies, to design,
develop and implement such a program.
The Director may receive delegated authority from the Vice President for
Research (VPR) to manage evolving scientific misconduct cases. The
Director will advise departmental and college leadership on university
policies and practices, and may serve in other roles to be specified by
the VPR. The Director will work with faculty governance groups and
university legal counsel to review and revise institutional policies in
this area as appropriate.
The Director will support other regulatory requirements of the
university, including serving as liaison to Environmental Health and
Safety, Student Health Services and other compliance related units.
