Hey, My reading of the note at Grants.gov is that the forms are being modified so they simply will not open in any other application than Reader 8.1.1 - attempting to do so would generate an error message. This can particularly come into play when the PI opens the Grants.gov package while at the same time s/he has Adobe Professional open to create PDFs for upload as attachments. I think Steve Shapiro's message yesterday was good in that it alerts us to potential problems such as this. We must figure out how to advise our faculty so that we can avoid the tragic circumstance of a proposal not making the deadline due to a conflict in Adobe applications on his/her machine. I am working now on a way to translate this information in a useful way for our faculty and staff. Thanks, Steve R. If the files can be made so they simply will not open in anything but Reader 8.1.1 * the problem may be solved.
