It looks the same on my desktop but it is 8.1.1. Open it, go to help and about, you will see the full name. I have tried to install Adobe 8.1.1 several times, but after it is installed the desktop icon says Adobe 8. This morning I noticed that there was still an older version of Adobe Reader (5.0) on my PC, so I removed that and tried again to install Adobe 8.1.1. It appears that with my operating system, Adobe 8 is the latest version I can install. Am I missing something? Is it possible that Adobe 8 is the same as Adobe 8.1.1? I do not have any version of Adobe Professional on my PC. A specific application can be EITHER Adobe or PureEdge. There will not be two versions of one application. However, during this transition time before June, 2008 when only Adobe forms will be accepted, it is important that users keep track of what version of an application is current. It would be best if users re-found application packages in Grants.gov and downloaded the new version after previous deadlines. Do not download applications far in advance of deadlines. Watch for agency announcements of when forms will be available. For example, a PI might have downloaded an NIH R01 Form to use for the March deadline, but decides to wait until July. The March version will be PureEdge, the June version will be Adobe. Thus the March version cannot be submitted in July. Get ADOBE READER 8.1.1 now, in addition to PureEdge (IBM Work Forms if you have a Mac). The former will still have .xfd extensions, while the Adobe ones are .pdf. By the way, remember that Vista and Leopard do not work with PureEdge/ IBM Forms. No problem with Adobe Forms. With the help of grants.gov, I was told that the default system should be the reader 8.1.1 when openning the adobe files. I did so but still when submitting the application, I received an error message from grants.gov. We had to have someone who only had the reader 8.1.1 installed re-enter everything in the application and resend it. That worked.
