Pre-Award Grant/Contract Group Manager
Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC) seeks a Pre-Award Grant/Contract Group Manager to lead a 5-7 person team which advises faculty and/or departmental personnel in the preparation and processing of grant-related applications. The group ensures compliance with agency and institutional policies, performs financial planning and forecasting, assists in the preparation and revisions of project budgets and prepares business & contracting portions of proposals.
The Pre-Award Grant/Contract Group Manager position reports to the MU VP for Research and is principally responsible for five main areas of work: (1) encouraging the submission of proposals by Marshall University faculty through outreach, training, and advocacy; (2) providing important assistance with preparation of proposals to private and governmental sponsors; (3) engaging in negotiations with funding agencies; (4) using his/her administrative knowledge and understanding of University priorities, policies, procedures and systems to anticipate the impact of externally driven and internal changes on MURC administrative procedures and systems; and (5) working closely with Deans, Vice-Presidents and Center Directors as they plan their research agendas.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's in relevant field preferred; CRA (Certified Research Administrator) certification desired
Work Experience
Require at least three years experience working in grants and contracts, sponsored programs, project management or a related area in research administration at an institution of higher education;
Key Knowledge /Experience Required
Knowledge of federal regulations (OMB Circulars A-21, A-133 and A-110);
Familiarity with the grant and contract policies of major state, federal, and non-profit funding agencies
Considerable experience with budgeting, accounting and financial management
Key Skills Required
Ability to exercise independent judgment
Attention to detail
Demonstrated managerial ability
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to establish priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines with a high standard of customer service
Ability to deal with internal and external contacts with a high level of tact and diplomacy
