Additional Information Purpose of position Negotiate terms and conditions of awards with emphasis on awards from commercial/for profit entities; assist researchers with contractual matters related to sponsored activity proposals. Essential functions Review and negotiate sponsored project contracts or subcontracts; make recommendations on intellectual property terms, publication terms and other issues of interest. Review contracts or subcontracts for various compliance risks. Interpret university and sponsor policies and procedures; apply university, state and federal rules, regulations and laws as they relate to sponsored research contracts. Meet with sponsor representatives to discuss and finalize award terms and conditions; meet with faculty to discuss proposal details and award terms. Review proposals, budgets and awards for special programs sponsored by the Welch Foundation, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and other sponsors. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, legal studies, public administration, or related field. Three years experience in the negotiation of research contract with for profit firms. Demonstrated knowledge in developing research project budgets. Extensive experience with the use of MS Word and MS Excel software. Preferred qualifications Graduate or professional degree, or certification with an emphasis in contract/subcontract negotiation. Five years experience working in a university research administration environment. Five years of experience in the negotiation of sponsored research agreements with commercial entities. Knowledge of University intellectual property policy. Knowledge of federal contract regulations. Ability to work independently. Individual who pays attention to detail, is accustomed to a fast paced environment with many deadlines, and who provides excellent customer service to a diverse community. Working conditions Exposure to standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Security Sensitive; criminal background check conducted. Works with overlapping projects with multiple deadlines. Occasional weekend, evening and holiday work. Occasional overtime. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
