BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY invites applications for the position of Associate General Counsel for a dynamic University that is on the course to become a metropolitan research university of distinction. This position will report to the General Counsel and will primarily practice in the area of research compliance. This requires knowledge and skill in the area of sponsored projects research ranging from contracting to compliance as well as knowledge of export controls, tech transfer and other research related topics. The negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts are required. The position will also support faculty and staff training and preventive law programs on a University-wide basis and will assist the General Counsel*s office in other legal issues. The Associate General Counsel must be able to provide competent legal advice to senior University officials on a variety of subjects. Therefore, preferred candidates will have a background in higher education or in a similarly large, complex public sector organization. In addition, successful candidates must have the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and be of high integrity. The successful candidate must have excellent communication, analytical, research, writing, problem solving, and interpersonal skills and be able to prioritize and handle a significant workload. An appreciation of the mission of the University and a commitment to preventive practice is required. Proficiency with multi-tasking, superior judgment, poise and the ability to work collaboratively in a small legal office are essential. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Associate General Counsel must have a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school, have at least three years of practice experience, and be a member of the Idaho Bar or be committed to obtaining admission within six months. The candidate must have experience in higher education, university research or university contract law. The selected candidate will be required to present official transcripts, certificates, and licenses as verification of the required qualifications. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have direct experience in university research issues. Also, there is a preference for a background in higher education law, government law, or expertise in one of the other practice areas of the General Counsel's Office, i.e. complex commercial transactions, real property law, and personnel matters particular to students and faculty.
