Bob,

A very similar situation happened with us. I can not remember the
sponsor but can find out if want that information. For us, the error
was our duns number was keyed incorrectly, however, we did not know
there was a problem until several months after submission when our
faculty member called the sponsor to check on the status and found out
they never received the proposal. We scoured our emails, but never
found an email from grants.gov regarding the error. In our case, the
sponsor was not willing to accept our proposal.

Subject: [RESADM-L] A grants.gov flaw?

To all,

Have any of you had the following experience with grants.gov? If so,
please contact me. I would like to know whether we are the only ones,
or others have having the same problem before I contact g.g about it.

Thanks.

What happened:

We submitted a proposal to NIH, on the due date, and on time, through
g.g. We received a g.g tracking number, and then, nothing. The PI,
concerned that he couldn't see the application in eCommons, asked me to
check. I called the g.g help desk, who told me the application had been
"rejected with errors", but couldn't tell me what the errors were. They
referred it to their IT people, who got back to me the next day and said
we had too many characters in the organization file of one of the senior
personnel. Of course, we were now several days late, and I had to write
a cover letter explaining why with the new submission.

The problem:

We were never notified that there were errors, or that the proposal had
been rejected, so obviously we did not know we had a problem or what the
problem was so we could fix it. (This had happened to us once before,
but, for other reasons, it wasn't clear at the time that the problem was
at g.g or with us). My experience has been that when there is an error,
you get an email saying that there are errors, and directing you to
eCommons to see what they are. But in this case, it never got to
eCommons--it died at g.g.

Has this happened to you?

Thanks.
