Thanks everyone. The option of creating a single appendix file would work. HOWEVER...this investigator believes, I think with good reason, that many reviewers still like to print the things they wish to read carefully, and requiring him/her to print a giant document may lead them to print and read nothing. Certainly, the basic grantsmanship rule of anticipating (and pampering) the passive reviewer by not putting anything essential into the appendix casts a shadow over all this.
