I worked for a geochemist at Caltech (maybe 20 years ago) who
received some of the 'moon rocks' from the first landing. He kept
small bars of gold in a safe. My memory might not serve perfectly,
but as well as I can recall, the pure gold was used in experiments
wherein it and the rock dust was placed in a crucible of
platinum. Can't recall the expense, or even the vendor.
