Manager - Financial Services (UCP VIII)

The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut,
Storrs Campus, is seeking an experienced, hands-on managing accountant
to manage the financial services ("Cash Management") unit of the Office
for Sponsored Programs. This position is responsible for coordinating
and supervising all cash management services provided by the Office for
Sponsored Programs, to ensure timely and accurate billings and
collections for sponsored research projects, including letter of credit.
The Manager - Financial Services will implement and manage computerized
financial control and billing systems; participate in establishing and
updating policies and procedures for financial services, accurately
maintain and reconcile general and subsidiary ledgers, journals and
accounts, monitor deposits and holding accounts, manage accounts
receivable aging and actively pursue accounts for collection as
necessary. The responsibilities of this position require the incumbent
to perform detailed work in all areas of responsibility, as well as
provide direction and supervisory oversight for a staff of two.
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related
area required, Masters degree in accounting or business, or
certification as a public accountant preferred. The ideal candidate
will have five or more years of recent professional experience as a
senior accountant with supervisory and office management ability,
preferably in a public agency, revenue collection department, or higher
education. Candidates must have knowledge of regulations and policies
governing financial control of University monies. In addition,
candidates must have knowledge of the Federal letter of credit system,
financial controls, methods and techniques required in the collection
and accounting of funds in accordance with University, Federal and state
rules and regulations for cash management of sponsored programs.
Excellent interpersonal skills required, with ability to effectively
communicate verbally and in writing, and serve as a liaison between
sponsors, University administration and principal investigators.
Knowledge of computer operations in the billing, collection, recording
and deposit of University monies, experience with spreadsheet and
reporting software, and mainframe applications required. Microsoft
Office suite, FRS, and FOCUS report writing experience preferred.
Adherence to a schedule between the standard operating hours of 8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. required, with occasional flexibility in order to meet
customer service objectives.
This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position, with a target
salary range in the low- to mid-sixties.
