Re: CRA certification Pat Shockley 03 Apr 2007 11:41 EST

Hello all. I am a (fairly) new CRA and I don't work in a University of
any kind. Public Health Institute is a private non-profit corporation
that manages grants and contracts for independent researchers. We
submit hundreds of proposals every year, and our post award people
manage many contracts and grants from federal, state and independent
foundations all at once.

We are big enough to have a preaward and postaward department, and I
work exclusively for pre-award. At present, I am the only CRA at our
institution, but I have a feeling that will change one day, since I
received a lot of support from my department to seek out this
certification. I believe it makes me more employable, but it also makes
me feel more competent and professional. That counts for a lot when a
lot proposals are due at once, and tension is high.

i am currently at a small private liberal arts college...i believe it
gives me added credibility with the administration AND it will be useful
should i put myself back in the job market. i should note, i was at an
r-1 for a number of years and didn't think it was important then.

Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a
purpose. It is a seeking that he who wishes may know the cosmic secrets
of the world and that they dwell therein.
