Extending an F32 beyond three years
Jennifer Lech 16 Mar 2007 08:35 EST
Good morning,
Has anyone ever successfully requested an extension of a Postdoctoral
NRSA (F32) beyond the normal limit of three years of support?
The F32 program announcement states that waivers of the three-year limit
may be possible "under certain exceptional circumstances" if additional
training time is needed. Of course, my first question when reading
this was does waiving the three-year limit mean that they are simply
giving us a no-cost extension or will they actually provide an
additional year of funding?
This is the first time that I can remember that one of our F32 awardees
has tried to request an extension so it would be helpful to hear some
others' experiences before we formally approach NIH. Any information
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jennifer
