Several years ago, in looking at Banner pre-award, we also found that Banner did not serve our needs for gathering all the necessary compliance information related to proposal submission, nor did it address our needs to improve service to researchers regarding electronic approvals and submissions. So our team at Saint Louis University has developed an electronic research services system that works WITH Banner capabilities and includes an electronic submission and approval process for PIs and administration, data collection regarding compliance needs, PI and administrator dashboards with access tied to specific roles and responsibilities, reporting tools, and a funding search mechanism that interfaces with grants.gov. The system also includes electronic effort reporting capability. We are now moving on to the development of tools for review of clinical trial contracts and the development of e-protocol capability for human subject protection that will be tied to proposal information where necessary, and, of course, tied to Banner information where it exists. We are presenting the current status of our system at the upcoming SCT/Sunguard conference in Las Vegas in March. This gets maddening as collaborations between units grows in response to federal RFPs.
