Since my name was mentioned in terms of Banner (thanks Pam!), I will put
my two cents worth in.  We initially had chosen to go with Banner for
proposal tracking and grant tracking.  What we quickly found out was
that a third party report writing software was not a part of the package
that TBR purchased.  At MTSU we were told we would use Access.  I worked
with IT to let them know what information we would need.  IT wrote 1
test program which did not capture everything we asked for.  I did not
have the time or resources to go back to IT and work closely with them.
In addition, we have post award up to financial reporting and we need to
work with PI's and explain Banner reports to them.

After talking with several people, including Pam, I came to the
conclusion that I could not create the reports I needed without a lot of
help from IT.  At national NCURA I looked at both IT Works and Infoed.
We have put an RFP out to bid for an integrated system that will include
proposal tracking, IRB, time and effort, and accounting.  IT Works looks
good for the cost.  I will have to wait until the bidding closes before
we get to choose a final softward package.
