When we get the application packet in time to do a thorough review prior to the deadline, we review every piece to make certain there won't be any errors. Sometimes, due to faculty timing, we have to do a cursory review, hitting the highpoints like Credentials in the Senior Key Personnel form; and then submit and deal with the errors, if there are any. How many applications did you get for the R01 Feb 5 Submission? (8) How many had errors? (2) How many with errors were corrected after the deadline? (2) How many did you reject and resubmit because the PI did not like what got into the Commons? (0) How many of these rejections were after the deadline? (NA) How soon before the deadline did you require a copy of the application? If you will take it in parts, How soon for the administrative information? in paper -- 424, budget, other paper? (24 hours) in electronic form? (24 hours) How soon for final full electronic version? (24 hours, but we were prompting the faculty to submit early since this was the first time in grants.gov. Plus we never turn down submitting an application.) Do you look at the full electronic file? all forms and all fields? (yes) selected sections and fields? all attachments? (no, only check that they are .pdf) How many staff did you have involved in checking and submitting NIH applications (2) Linda Daugherty, MHD Pre Award Manager University of Missouri - Kansas City Office of Research Service 5211 Rockhill Road Kansas City, Missouri 64110 816-235-5634 voice 816-235-6532 fax xxxxxx@umkc.edu -----Original Message----- From: Research Administration List [mailto:xxxxxx@hrinet.org] On Behalf Of Robert Beattie Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 10:59 AM To: xxxxxx@hrinet.org Subject: [RESADM-L] more info on review of electronic proposal submissions Interesting that folks are looking at such detail within each application. This survey of reviewing would be better with some context. I am now the eRA Editor for the NCURA Newsletter. For my first article, I would like to report on how the first two R01 deadlines went. Perhaps people would send me the following information, directly, not through the group. xxxxxx@umich.edu I will summarize and post to the group -- no need to ask for your own copy :) Just to give some context, I have put in the UM data. How many applications did you get for the R01 Feb 5 Submission? (75) How many had errors? (15) How many with errors were corrected after the deadline? (0) How many did you reject and resubmit because the PI did not like what got into the Commons? (18) How many of these rejections were after the deadline? (0) (I will try to get a report from NIH on what numbers were and what were common errors) How soon before the deadline did you require a copy of the application? If you will take it in parts, How soon for the administrative information? in paper -- 424, budget, other paper? (7 work days) in electronic form? How soon for final full electronic version? (4 work days) Do you look at the full electronic file? all forms and all fields? (yes) selected sections and fields? all attachments? (no, only check that they are .pdf) How many staff did you have involved in checking and submitting NIH applications (2, with 2 in reserve) Thanks much for the information. For the Feb 5 and 16 deadline our office literally opened every document and I am wondering if it's necessary to review to that extent. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.
