For all the attributes large email listserves provide their readers, they are not immune to faulty information.  I am referring specifically to comments by Julia Ogden which appeared Friday, February 9th on xxxxxx@hrinet.org <mailto:xxxxxx@hrinet.org> regarding the search for a new Vice President of Research (VPR) and Executive Director of Marshall University Research Corporation (MURC).

While Mrs. Ogden was correct about the existence of a search, she was carelessly mistaken about everything else.  For example, the current VPR and Executive Director of MURC was never the Dean of the School of Medicine.  Likewise, he has not retired.  Finally, and most egregiously, was the erroneous contention that the previous executive director was demoted.  Because Mrs. Ogden was not at Marshall when this change was made and has no direct knowledge of this decision, she is totally misinformed.  The actual basis for the change was an effort to improve research administrative services to the School of Medicine and other main campus units by moving MURC's most knowledgeable grants administrator into Marshall's new $48 million dollar research building where a majority of our most prolific researchers are located.   The current VPR and the rest of MURC continue to rely daily on the advice and counsel of the previous executive director.  So, while his title may have changed, his relocation only increases his role and value to the research programs at Marshall.

I apologize for this misinformation and all who read this note to help us find Marshall's next Vice President for Research.
