(Search # 07A054) ***2*** Revised - Search Extended Grants and Contracts Specialist I or II (UCP VI or VII) Post Award Grant Manager Office for Sponsored Programs The Office for Sponsored Programs at the University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus, is seeking an experienced accounting professional to manage sponsored research accounts in accordance with Federal and State laws, University policies and sponsor guidelines. The position requires a strong accounting background and use of sound fiscal practices to perform complex grant accounting functions including: Interpretation of grant terms and conditions to ensure proper account set-up; preparation and input of budgets into mainframe accounting and grant tracking systems; ongoing monitoring of accounting and financial activity on sponsored project accounts; final determination of the allowability of expenditures; review and approval of budget revisions; and preparation of journal entries for corrections or adjustments to grant accounts. The grant manager will work with University administrators and researchers and advise in interpretation and application of relevant policies and regulations on budgetary issues affecting project accounts. The grant manager will also act as a liaison between the University, sponsor and Principal Investigator, provide oversight or assistance to meet reporting obligations at account closeout, maintain complete and accurate records and documentation, and exercise good judgment in clarifying and resolving issues of concern. The incumbent will identify and make recommendations for improvement of current practices, and perform other tasks as required. Required qualifications and skills include a Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field plus four years of relevant experience, or eight years of relevant experience in a business organization or government agency where the primary day-to-day duties of the position included the preparation and processing of accounting and budget transactions. Candidates should have demonstrated experience reading, interpreting and applying Federal and State laws and regulations. Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to think critically, flexibly and analytically, and ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment required. The candidate should be proficient with the use of computerized spreadsheet, database and word processing applications, Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Experience using a mainframe application such as FRS and/or experience using an electronic research administration system such as InfoEd a plus. This is a full-time, twelve-month, permanent position.
