Retroactive Pay Increases

Our institution is in the process of settling with the various union
groups that represent most employees. The new agreements are generally
for a two-year period and, in this instance, are retroactive to July 1,
2005, some 15 months ago.
As you might expect, over the intervening period, we have had to
close-out many grants thereby losing the ability to charge sponsors for
the retroactive amounts.
Does your institution have a formal process for recognizing this
liability and for funding it?
